Disparate Treatment

Treating individuals of different races may be proof that the individual making the decisions are making those decisions based on race. If the employer has another valid reason for making the decision, that could change things. And, if the individual making the decision has been known to say or do other things that indicate racist beliefs or prejudices, that is more evidence of racism. If the excuse the individual offers for the decision is a lie, or if it doesn't make any sense, that could be evidence of racism -- because "why else lie about it?" You would probably be well-served if you would go see a lawyer for some advice. You will probably have to pay for the lawyer's time (hey, you pay for a doctor's advice, don't you?), but it could be well worth it if you wind up getting the demotion withdrawn. Check out www.workplacefairness.org for information about racism and for what you need to know about deadlines in which to file an EEOC charge in Texas.

Good luck!

discrimination

That could be race discrimination. If you feel that it is, you need to file a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. They will do an investigation.
