Any Unlawful Behavior in the workplace?

My Mother has recently been put in a situation at work where her and another female coworker have been demoted and offered a new job. At her work she described the upper management as being good friends with some of the co workers that she works with. They have been constantly pressing her to teach one of the group of friends on how to do her job. after a stalemate in regards to her teaching someone her position, they randomly jumped the gun and told her that her position is no longer available to her, and she was offered a job 5pm-1am on the fork lift (probably just to cover their asses), and she is no longer certified for driving the forklift, and they gave her one day to respond. Please, could there be anything here? She's worked there for almost 8 years and never got a complaint and it is obvious they want her gone, and they offered her a terrible, new second optioned that she never signed up for. And if she doesn't take it she'll loose the insurance that helps cover my dad's medicine that keeps him healthy and stable.
Is there anything we can do?
