Could my employer retaliate against me for being dragged in this lawsuit as a non party witness?

My previous employer was pulled into a wrongful death suit as a defendant, I reached out to the family through private messaging to offer condolences, they learned what I had heard since I didn’t see the incident myself. I also vented to a friend through another private messenger but kept the company anonymous, could my employer retaliate against me for doing this? Is it likely that they will? I was never told by management stay quiet about the situation and never signed anything for that specific incident and the family had made a public post about it before I did anything. I don’t remember signing an NDA but I could have.
