Can my employer pay out severance in a lesser amount than stated in the severence contract?

I was recently laid off from my job due to company bankruptcy. We were all offered severance in exchange for signing a contract giving up rights to sue etc. Before I signed my contract I learned that the contract states that we would be paid our base salary for 60 days as of separation in a lump sum. So I calculated my daily rate times 60 days as stated in the contract, but when I received my severance check it was much less and I was told that they paid us for 2 months. That is a lesser amount than the 60 days stated. Don't they have to adhere to the wording in the contract of paying out 60 individual days?
