I have a written contract with my employer for $1600 month salary.I worked my first complete pay period and on payday managment said that they have changed their minds and would not honor the contract. They payed me a lesser amount feeling that is what the job is worth. Are they responsible for the contracted amount?I have not cashed the lesser check yet.

of course!

if you have a written contract providing a fixed salary or wage for a specific job, you're entitled to that pay rate, for as long as you do that job (within the term of the agreement). if the written contract is not for a specified term (e.g., six months or one year), the issue becomes cloudier. they would have to pay you the agreed amount for all work performed, until the contract is properly repudiated or modified. you need to talk to an attorney experienced in employment law and pay her/him to examine the actual terms of the contract.
good luck
