Attorney fees

I am going to talk to an attorney today. He said he would take my case because he is familiar with the public employer where i work as a public employee. He told me the fee would be $3500 for the civil service hearing and unemployment hearing if needed. If the unemployment hearing is not needed $500 would not be charged. I have no idea if this price seems fair. Any information would be helpful.

I agree with Mr. Allen. Generally, a $3000 fee for a civil service hearing is a fair price for a very simple 1/2 day hearing with just a few hours preparation time. Anything more complex than that will cost quite a bit more in fees. It does depend on the details of your case.

There's no way to know without knowing the details of your case. A civil service appeal could range from a 1/2 day hearing on a simple issue, to a multi-day hearing involving numerous factual and legal issues, with extensive preparation time.
