I was laid off and received a severance package. The package says I have to wait six months to file for unemployment. Can this agreement compel me to not follow state law in NM. State law says I can file as soon as I am laid off.

I was given a severance package after 34 years of service with my company. The agreement stated I couldn’t apply for unemployment for six months. State law says I can apply right away. Can the agreement compel me not to file?
