Is this legal or should I speak legal advice??

Hi! I have a question. My boyfriend was on his way to work and was hit at a red light. He was on short term disability and is currently on long term disability as of may/June When he went to long term disability his insurance went from 160/mo for me and him to 370. He has had one spinal fusion and he bled out and they aborted it and sent us for testing for blood disorders and cancer. We got cleared and are awaiting second surgery for around march. Well on the year mark we received a letter of termination saying they don't see the condition improving. They offered no options such as working from home which he would have been able to do and company offers they also have not requested medical records so don't know what's going on. On top of this they ended his insurance with no notification until after. They didnt offer us even a warning to try and find insurance? I believe we were on cobra because we were paying full price the company wasn't paying the half as if he was actively working. Is this legal? We are so devastated and lost. Any advice is welcome, is this a case to seek an attorney? We didn't receive severance package or anything they basically kicked him to curb no warning. This is a very large company and he had been working there 3 years prior to accident.
