Employee ID number

I'm being asked to provide my employee ID # by the assistant manager to track paid time off is the reason given. Our time is already being tracked within our payroll system and I feel this should not be shared unless it is by HR or payroll admin. I think personal information can be found out with this number. What is the employee right in this case for not being afraid to share it?
