What personal information can your employer request?

HR has given each employee an employee data sheet to complete. Some of the info requested includes children's names and spouse cell phone number, and personal cell phone number. Am I required to provide this information?

I am not aware of any prohibitions keeping an employer from getting the personal information you have requested. There are circumstances under which the employer might have legitimate need for that information, i.e. if you got hurt or ill at work and they needed to contact someone. Once they have the information, I think they have an obligation not to further disseminate it to people who have no legitimate need to know.
