Do I have rights to reimbursement of relocation expense, or to refuse to move with being terminated?

I work for a sales representative agency in California. I have been with them for 8 years. 4 years were as an independent contractor and 4 as an employee. The current position I hold is as an outside sales rep. My company is now demanding I move to a residence within my sales territory. Neither the company nor position has changed or relocated. I have been living at the same residence for my entire career with the company. This requirement is not in the employee handbook, but I have told it will be added. My employer is not offering any assistance in the financial burden of the move: breaking my lease, coming up with a deposit for a new lease, higher rent, or the higher county taxes I will be incurring. In addition, the territory they want me to move to is as close as 10 miles from my current residence. There is no actual cause for this relocation. It is simply retaliation by my boss.
