Can my employer require me to change a shift although it is in my job description?

I have been on FMLA leave for nine weeks and am due to return to my job next week. I have been employed there over two years. My job discription requires my ability to work flexible shifts. I normally work day shift, only working evenings to train new employees or when a special function is occuring. I have just been notified that upon my return, evening shifts will be a regular part of each week's schedule for me. Also, for the previous two years, i work a thirty-four to thirty-eight hour week. I was told that i must work a minimum forty hours to keep my full time status. Can my employer legally do this?
