Forcing on another shift a temp taking my old job

I was given 1 days notice that I was to change shifts permenently or I could quit. I do not feel as though I was being treated fair. Is this illegal for a company to give you such short notice and MAKE you go to another shift even though there are bumping rights within the company but they said we could not do that!! Then I find out a day later after I started to work the off shift that a temporary person has tooken my old job in which they said they no longer had room for!?? What should I do. I cannot work this other shift!! I have a child in school!!

You may have rights

It's hard to say what rights you may have without further information. Generally, an employer can change a worker's shift. However, the employer cannot discrimiate in the process. Is your work unionized? Do you have an employment contract? If you would like to discuss this in further detail, call me at 586-992-9981.
