severance pay and age discriminations

5 employees were laid off for budget cuts not for work performance. All are 58 years and older. It appears may subcontract our positions to younger employees. No one was let go for cause. Also it there was a severance package offered primarly that we would not take them to court based on age discrimination. We had seven days to sign or else. Also if we did sign is there a time frame to expect the severance pay if it was not stated when we would receive the pay?
