day off denied proved costly!

Last July, I had a an appointment for a mammogram on my day off. I was called at home by my manager saying "my head would roll" unless I canceled the appt. and went into work. I complied. I later found that I had breast cancer that required surgery, and still face radiation, and chemotherapy. Had the condition been detected earlier (at the July appt.), my prognosis would have been much better. The employer has since fired me anyway. I feel this unreasonable demand cost me more than I have space to go into here. Any recourse available?

cancelled appointment

I'm sorry to hear what you have experienced. The question that occurs to me is why didn't you reschedule immediately? It sounds kind of like an example of hindsight being 20/20.
