Why am I hourly and not salary like the other AP person in my department?

I have been at my company for about 12 years and have always been a salary employee. I have the same responsibilities as the other A/P person in my department. I have recently changed by hours (start and quit time - an earlier shift). I still work the same amount of hours as the other A/P personnel yet i am being docked when they are not for arriving after the 7 minute grace period. I am not sure why. Any insight to why this might be
