Terminated from position of 7 years. Boss said that he was unable to contact me during my suspension from work. (I had received a written warning due to incomplete work. Final written warning is last thing before termination) Told boss I hadn’t received any missed calls. Boss said they sent a letter out as well stating if I didn’t contact employer before certain date (3 days from postmarked date) they would mark me as voluntarily terminating the position. I did not receive this letter until the following week after my termination due to a recent move. So I was unaware of the need to contact my boss. Contacted boss (to let him know I was finishing my education modules) the morning after the date listed on the letter (that I hadn’t received yet) and was informed I had been terminated. 1 week after all of this is when I received certified mail from my employer. Took longer for me to receive due to being in the middle of moving to our new home. The mail states that because of me not showing up for 3 shifts I was scheduled for and employer unable to contact me, they would consider me voluntarily terminating my position. These 3 shifts I was suspended without pay. I know I was in the wrong to begin with but I was under the impression I was suspended and then out of nowhere, I was fired.
