Reversal of Bonus on Last Paycheck

My final paycheck dated 10/16/2003 reflected $1.00 and included the following note from the owner/employer:
As you know you were paid in good faith 2 bonuses for August. Your individual bonus was realized "exactly" and the staff bonus was based on a +1 figure. Subsequent NSF's resulted in both quotas not being met, therefore your bonuses were reversed.
A) I was never told that bonuses could and would be reversed for any reason. B) I feel the reversal of an August bonus in October is retalitory. C) If the "staff" bonus was not realized, why was I the only employee to receive such a deduction?
