Negotiation of the repayment of a sign in bonus

The terms of my employment included a 5,000 signing bonus that had the following verbage,"In addition, Yardi Systems(my company) will pay you a one-time amount of $5,000, payable upon signing this agreement. Should you decide to terminate your employment voluntarily within one year, this amount will be payable back to Yardi Systems."
My question is, I am leaving the company after 5 months of employment however I am doing so because my position is a 80 to 100% travel position and after sept 11th i no longer want to travel for security reasons, do I have a case for disputing my obligation? I received 2,900 after taxes, do I have to pay the full amount?
