Is it illegal to threaten termination for speaking with a co-worker about wage

My boss threatened to fire me for talking about salary with a co-worker. The co-worker approached me at work and asked. We are not prohibited in any way from speaking about non work topics while working. I understand that they cannot legally fire me for this. Is it illegal to threaten termination for aforementioned action, and if so do I have any recourse? The threat was over text message. My reply was what about the NLRA? I am an hourly, non contract healthcare worker, non union. Was told by boss via telephone that NLRA applies only to unions.
