Since this is NOT the position I interviewed for and accepted, must i payback the relocation?

I work in a specialized technical field. When I accepted my present position I signed a relocation payback agreement. Now, because there isn't enough work in the position I accepted, my manager is moving me to another position which is far junior than my present role. While the pay remains the same, this is bad for my career in tech to take the step backwards. Since this is NOT the position I interviewed for and accepted, hasn't the employer violated the employment agreement in such a way I would not have to repay the relocation if I resigned?
