I work for a company in california who is an at will employer. I am giving a 2 week notice tomorrow but have heard they terminate people on the day they resign. Do they have to pay me for my 2 weeks?

I work for a company based in california. They are an at will employer. In the employee handbook it states that a 2 week written resignation is preferred but not required. I am resigning with a 2 week notice tomorrow. Do they have to pay me for the 2 weeks? I know I can file for unemployment benefits if they don't.
Thank you!
