I was laid off by my company. I was offered and accepted a severance package. Five weeks has elapsed and I have been offered a new position at the same company and am being asked to repay the severance and vacation time. There is nothing in the severance agreement about either of these situations. It feels like I am being penalized for something the company did. Although no one has said so explicitly, it appears that repaying the severance will be a condition of being rehired. In other words, if I refuse to repay the money, even if I am legally entitled to do so, I will forfeit the new position.
