I was attacked on the job at 6 months pregnant and my employer misinformed me of my rights under WC?

I was at work 6 months pregnant and under the care of my OB/GYN for my pregnancy. While at work a transit came in my office and physically attacked me, she tried to hit me in my belly and told me she was going to kill me and my baby. I fought her off and got into my a safe place to call police. Police arrested her and she was charged with the assault and asked to pay restitution. My employer had me use all of my PTO while I was on leave because of my attack and I was not paid by workmans comp while off. Workmans comp paid for counseling that I was ordered to do from my OB/GYN due to the hate nature of the crime. I am a white female attacked by a African American woman who told the judge she attacked me because I was white. I facilitate and run an independent elderly facility ages 62 and older subsidized. No safety measures have been placed for my security since the incident besides an alarm system panic button that is remote but not locatable. I am older now still in my job after 8 years and have been told by others this is wrong and I should hire a lawyer. I am a single mother of 5 children and not able to afford a lawyer and afraid to be fired if I pursue what happened to me in 2010. I feel treated unfairly now that I have been educated about my rights as an employee. What do you think I should do?
