Work decides not to continue to pay me

I am a makeup artist at a club that pays all of the artists a shift pay and also allows us to charge a small fee for the makeup applications. I have been their makeup artist for six years now. I recently left our dallas location, and transferred over to our Fort Worth location because my boss degraded me in front of everyone. When I transferred I filled out the exact same paperwork and was told I would still receive the same pay that I have always gotten. I have been there for three weeks now and when I went into work yesterday I was told they could no longer afford to pay me but that I could stay and work without my shift pay. I declined to stay because all of the other artists are still receiving their pay except me. I want to know if this is legally ok, or if I can do anything?

Hard to say whether you have a claim against the employer with so few facts but there is a likelihood that the employer owes you at least minimum wage for hours you worked, if you continued working there. Only way to know for sure would be to talk to a local employment lawyer. Learn more about your employment rights at http://www.kielichlawfirm.com
