How can I determine that my new employer is truly a competitor of my old employer?

There is only one product offered by my old employer that could be considered a competitive product. Both use the same sales channels. However, I have worked for my old employer on two separate occasions (I was laid off the first time)and in between I worked for two different companies that also used the same sales channels. My old employer is based in WA and my new employer is based in CA. I have/will work remotely in TX. When/if I start my new position, I will be three months short of the two year non-compete restriction. Yes, I am interested in an individual consultation.
