Forced to start FMLA early

I am 33 weeks pregnant, and have been "forced" by my employer to start my FMLA early. Their reasoning is because I can't fulfill the requirements of my job description.
When I asked to see a job description, I was told there wasn't one for my particular area of work.
Can my employer legally do these things to me?

Beginning FMLA Time Off

Maybe, maybe not. Did you write a quick letter (in very polite language, of course) asking why the decision was made that you would begin your time off when the company designated it? If not, you may want to do so. You should not get discouraged if the bureaucracy works slowly on this one. Be polite, but make sure that the company knows that you want an answer because you are not sure that it is fair. How is this going to affect your plans to have a certain amount of time off after the child is born? If that is going to be a problem, you may need to see a lawyer before you run out of the 12 weeks allowed you under the Family & Medical Leave Act.
