Fired after reporting a workplace violence incident sustaining injuries

I am a 33 y/o black female with a Masters in Public Administration. I was hired into an unclassified position on July 19, 2007 at the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. On July 1, 2010, I entered into a new position and was given a 5K salary increase for good performance. On July 14, 2010, I was involved in a workplace violence incident where I sustained physical and mental injuries from a subordinate. The police was notified and I was requested and required by my employer to document and formally submit the incident to them. On July 16, 2010, I submitted a written report of the incident. They stated they requested and required that the subordinate also submit a written report. After receiving my written report, they asked for a copy of my medical statement proving the injury and a copy of the police report. These items were given to them. My superiors were never forthcoming about the proper protocol, my rights, or expressed any empathy. They became evasive in regards to me and the issue. On July 29, 2010, I was notified to come into the office the next day at 4:00pm to discuss some follow-up information they had for me regarding the incident. I met with my supervisor on July 30, 2010 at 4:00pm prepared to discuss the incident. On the contrary, he stated he called me into the meeting to terminate my employment. To my surprise, the workplace violence incident was never discussed during the termination meeting and no one ever followed up with me on a conclusion or the results of an investigation, if there was one. From what I understand, the subordinate is still employed and was allowed to write a letter to management stating why he should not be dismissed.

Note that the subordinate was previously involved in several other incidents regarding sexual harrassment and an irate behavior towards myself, other female co-workers, and other members of management. On several occassions, his co-worker complained of him being angered, touching her inappropriately, and making inappropriate sexual comments either to her or in front of her. This co-worker explained that she would be uncomfortable traveling with him on the job. Upper management stated they were probably sleeping together and that they will have to travel together, despite her complaints. The issues with this subordinate have been ongoing and upper management has failed to properly address his conduct. Please assist me as I have suffered serious emotional, physical, and financial distress as a result of this subordinate's conduct and management's neglect to handle the situation.
