Does a company legally have to approve a medical leave request from a doctor?

My wife's doctor has her not working due to the fact that she will be off of her meds due to certain medical factors that she is currently being faced with. The doctor also requested that she be moved locations due to the discrimination that is currently going on there towards her because of her race. The company has denied the doctors request and is no longer paying her. She just recieved a letter via Fed Ex stating that her position is being posted on the new employment list. She has gone through her General Manager, Area Manager, and Human Resources. No one is willing to help or give her a direct answer.
