Company withdrawed job offer and caused me to lose my job

A company offered me a job to work in it's California plant as the Human Resource representative of that plant. Two weeks after accepting that job and after having to resign my job with my company, they decided not to hire me any more. They said they didn't want to hire me because they could not verify my employment with my company and they didn't know what was going on. I tried to tell them I didn't know that and I was ready to start working for them the following Monday, but they just didn't want to deal with me. I don't think it's right what this company did to me because I relied on their offer and resigned my job, which I no longer work. Do I have a chance to make this company liable for withdrawing their job offer.
