Commissioned salesperson. Can commission be changed after the sale is made?

Verbally agreed to split deal with other salesman, which I did for the first 11 stores. Progress stalled for a year and the deal changed to a fraction of the original. I had a conversation with the sales rep and explained it and I thought he had accepted it. He took it up with the VP who told my boss that It would be split. Then my boss tried to sell me on what a good deal this was for me. I’m afraid that because I quit, I’ve lost my rights to the commission, which is paid at install. I would not have resigned had they not altered my sales plan.
