Can your employer fire you with good cause because he found out you contacted an attorney because he was illegally deducting money every week from your paycheck and he found out you spoke to an attorney about him doing that?

2 months after I started working for my employer he started taking $200/week from my paycheck charging me rent for an apartment that was located on his premises of employment. The original agreement was the apartment was included with salary at no charge. I tried to resolve it with him to no avail. I contacted an attorney to see if I had recourse to recoup the money he stole from me. It is a small town and someone at the attorneys office informed him I had called about it. He fired me after he found out I had spoken to an attorney. Did he have good cause to fire me?
