Can my employer withhold vacation pay on final paycheck?

I recently got fired. my final paycheck only had one week paid vacation when company policy said I should have two. When questioned, the owners told me that when I left for 7 months (due to a medically complicated pregnancy), they "reverted me back to start" taking away any benefits accumulated prior to letting me go. This was never discussed, I was never informed, I never quit or was fired during that 7 month. I never signed anything agreeing to it. The first I had heard of it was when I questioned why I was shorted on my paycheck. This was after 5 years of solid service for them.
