Can my employer keep my wages after I quit?

I quit my job, and told my employer to keep the wages I was owed. The amount I am owed is over $1200. I understand under MA law that the employer still has to pay someone who quits, but payment does not have to be immediate and can be at the next scheduled pay period. Here, it would be monthly (1st of the month). I have not received a check to date (7/6). Can the employer keep these wages or do they still have to pay me what I am owed?

In Massachusetts, an employer is required to pay timely all wages earned. You may file a complaint online with the Massachusetts attorney general's office or contact a private attorney.
