They should not fire you just for missing work due

In a word, no, they should not fire you just for missing work due to an illness. However, I am sure there are many other factors involved. This is a question covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA").

From your question, I cannot tell if you have been fired, or if you just seek reassurance that they cannot fire you just for the illness. If you have been fired, you need to consult a local attorney, immediately. If you have not been fired, you STILL need to contact a local attorney to be sure you AND your employer are in compliance with the ADA.
