Am I mistreated because of discrimination?

I was diagnosed with advanced cancer after I joined the company for about 5 months. I had to take two 6-week leaves for very hard treatments. I told my manager in details regarding my illness and treatments.

After my return after the 2nd leave, my manager started to criticize me a lot, and said he considered to demote me and fire me by trivializing my contributions to the team.

As an engineer, it is hard to be perfect, that is, everyone occasionally makes mistakes. I need to admit that it was hard to maintain the same performance as I did before because the side effects and the psychological pressure, while I believe I can still work similarly as my co-workers.

I am currently communicating with HR, but she seems on his side. Can I sue the company if I am terminated or demoted?
