do you normally get paid out of your severance when you leave a job

my company is closing the plant that i work at, I decided to leave the compamy, I was told that I would get a 60 day notice of my termination date yet I was told this past monday that my last work day would be this friday. I was told that I would be paid until Feb.1 2013 but it will be out of my severance packet, there are others who have the same term date as myself yet they get to work until their term date is that normal or legal for a company to do that
