The FMLA requires a covered employer to allow those persons who meet the qualifications (1250 hours worked in the preceding year) to take up to 12 weeks of leave in a year to address self-care and other medical conditions. While most often this relates to serious conditions. In order to determine whether the employer is wrong, see an employment attorney. I do not believe there is any requirement that medication be prescribed before leave is allowed.

The regulations are very specific and your specific situation can be reviewed.
