can a company that in all prior years permitted 5 carryover days in the new year decide to take away the carried over days after the new year has started?

The policy for the company has always been that 5 vacation days could be carried over into the new year. I saved 5 days to carry over. Now it's February and management has changed the policy and said we no longer have the days we carried over. Is it legal to retroactively change the policy?
