What recourse does he have against false accusations of child porn and theft?

My husband worked for almost 5 years inside customers' homes all day, every day. After completing a 3.5 hour job during which he was in the attic and nearly every room, the customer accused him of stealing something from her bathroom. He insisted she search his company vehicle, but she refused and stated she would go inside to question her teenage daughter and the 3-4 other teens there.
He was suspended from work the next day, company vehicle confiscated, pending investigation of the allegation that he stole cough syrup. They did not want to send him for a U.A.; he insisted and took one that day. Two days later, he was fired and only told that he was a "liability."
The following week, we learned that the client and her husband were circulating emails containing his description and accusing him of taking a bottle of cough syrup AND also secretly videotaping their nude, minor teen daughter in the shower. Because no cameras exist, this was fantastically done with a microscopic scope inserted into holes in the girl's ceiling while he was in the attic, and then removed. We have obtained copies of 2 emails.
These allegations were reported to his former employer prior to the termination. A police report was filed and my husband gave a statement about what he thought was the accusation regarding the medicine. The detective inquired about holes in the ceiling. He informed her that he never even took his drill out at all, much less into the house as it wasn't needed.
Three days passed, then, without warning, 4-5 uniformed Special Crimes Unit officers and 3 detectives came to our house to "talk" to my husband. He consented to an unwarranted search that lasted approximately 2 hours; they were searching for kiddie porn. The search yielded absolutely nothing, though they reprimanded him for a bottle of whiskey. The detectives pressured him for 2 hours to take a polygraph, but he wisely thought it would be best to seek legal advice first. Before they left, they said he could be facing charges of felony theft of a narcotic and pornographic videotaping of a minor; no charges have been filed but we await each day wondering if he will be arrested.
The emails previously mentioned went viral to major employers and the school district here. We hear of these lies being told be friends and acquaintances of the woman and husband every day in new locations. After a stellar 4 1/2 years with his employer, they will not speak a word to either of us and will not answer phone calls or return messages.
What can be done to salvage his reputation? To allow him future employment? How long will we have to worry about possible arrest? We are interested in a paid consult with an interested, local attorney. Please considering answering my post. I thank you in advance for your time.
