What if I send a cease and desist letter to my former employer? I failed to follow procedures involving removal of an item discarded by a former resident at an elderly community. I feel their black stamp of theft on my record is misleading to future emplo

In a meeting the managers told us to Remove leftover items from our store rooms and vacant apartments. I asked the maintenance director to save me a wicker chair and table leftover in a vacant apartment for then almost 4 months. He told me to just go ahaid and take it. I can provide evidence that but for telling the on duty manager ahead of time I didn't sneak the item out. In fact it can be confirmed by management that I'd come in early the next day and was going to tell them I had the item. When corralled into a sales office and asked if I took the item I immediately said yes and reminded them of the meeting and what the maintenance director said. I was fired for theft. I also had written hr complaining about the same mangers who are new and days before this incident I noticed an ad for position which I can prove they cannot fill unless they remove myself or one of my coworkers. I feel they placed this misleading theft on my record for purposes of retaliation for my reporting them to corporate. I have emails to corporate before and after the incident and the ad for help wanted as well as the hr director stating that the maintenance director may have in fact told me to take the item and telling me that evidence I may present to her was quote irrevalant. The company handbook describes theft as unauthorized removal of company property or the property of another employee or resident, this was neither. Theft is a serious charge in my case working with the elderly and a misleading charge I believe in my case. And devastating to me.
