Relocated and Fired 2 days before recruiter is due commission

I was in a 12 month lease and I was relocated two hours away. It was 2800 to break my apartment lease. The company offered 5000 relocation. It was 1500 to get in a new apartment near the new job and I thought getting a 9 month lease was smart since I was laid off previous job at just 3 months.

The new job that relocated me fired me 3.8 weeks in! Mostly due to them not wanting to pay the recruiter a finders fee which was due in 2 days. Also I was accused of arriving late by 30 min but when I showed my contract with hours which showed the hours in which I arrive on time; I wasn't given an apology. The next day they laid off 1/3 of the company. Over 32 people.

I now have to pay $3000 for breaking the apt second lease. Also they did this 3 days before thanksgiving. They did send a severance for $3800 which is not enough to move with and pay for lease breaking.

I'm now being sued for this. I have been unemployed since they fired me. Also the town I relocated to was like a ghost town. No opportunity for my field of expertise. Despite I applied to tons of jobs but because of thanksgiving and Christmas no worries one called for interviews until Jan 5.

Do I have a case here? I want them to pay my lease breaking fees and general craziness.
