Non-Competition Contract under old company name.

When hired I was asked to sign a Non-Competition contract. When reviewing it I noticed it had the name of the company 3 buyers ago. I asked about the name stating I didn't work for Company X - I was working for Company A. I was told it was grandfathered in. Is this legal?
