Job elimination three days after receiving a raise.

My friend was just laid off from work after working there for 29 1/2 years. She was told her job was being eliminated. Just three days before she received a good performance review and a raise. Can a company do this?

employment at will

It is employment at will in Texas which means a company can terminate an employee for no good reason. There are exceptions such as discrimination based upon sex, age, disability, etc. If she feels she has a claim, she should contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commision or a local lawyer.
