If your employer tells you that you are required to work for free do you have to?

My employer says that my my contract (offer letter) says that i am required to work extra days. However, when i asked if this was paid, i asked if it was paid and they said no, it was mandatory volunteer. Am i obligated to work for no pay even tho my contract says that i have to work extra days?
