moving to CA to defeat a non compete agreement
Does moving to CA while you are currently employed with a non compete agreement in force invalidate it?

It is my understanding that non-compete agreements are illegal in California, with two exceptions:
(1) Non-compete agreements are usually enforceable for partnerships and when someone is selling their ownership interest in a company.
(2) Protection of trade secrets. A company can prevent the use of its trade secrets, but it cannot prevent fair competition.
Check with the law department of your employer or a California lawyer for a specific answer.
