I recently started a new job. Someone called and accused me of mishandling money at my previous employer. The accusation is false and i have never been charged of a crime. Can my new employer fire me?

An “anonymous” person reported to my new employer false Acquisitions that I mishandled company funds at my previous employer. This is untrue. It’s my word against there’s. I have never been charged with any crime. Can my new employer legally fire me. I have never broken any policy with my new employer.
