I have of question about pyramiding OT and holiday hours.

The way that I understood pyramiding was that if you work a holiday and also work OT on that holiday that you can not get paid both holiday and OT for that day. Which I understand. But the company that I work for doesn't do it that way. For example I worked Christmas this year which was holiday pay and was a Monday, but I did not work any OT that day. I did work OT the following Thursday and Friday, which is in the same pay period but not a holiday. They took my OT for those 2 days and when questioned told me that I couldn't get the OT because it was pyramiding. Is this right, is it legal ?
