How do I lay-off a part-time employee / health safety concerns?

My part-time employee does a great job, but I want to scale-back my small craft business.

We also work with art supplies that require wearing a respirator mask, which she's expressed a sensitivity to. I've given her the option not to do this work, but she insists she enjoys the work and she's OK. I know she needs the income, but I'm not OK having her work for me if her health and safety are at risk. This, on top of not needing her help anymore, I feel its necessary to let her go ...

What is the legal way to go about doing this? She's working another part-time job elsewhere. Should I offer her severance? Thanks

If you offer her severance make sure that she signs a general release. You really should consult with and retain an employment lawyer for this. Many of us help clients similar to your situation, remotely, around the state. Electronic technology is awesome in that regard. Good luck.
