HR divulged a confidential matter to the wrong person and it got back to me.

There was an HR incident filed against me where a person was eaves dropping on a call and misheard a conversation and filled an incident over a word that was said. HR then contacted the wrong person thinking it was me and divulged the allegations to them. This person then mentioned it to a co-worker who knew it was me they were talking about, they then gave HR my name and I was eventually contacted. I fear that my name now has a negative connotation because it has been discussed amongst other workers. I fear that my upward mobility in the company has been halted because of this should I want to apply in other departments. Is this a case worth pursuing?
